Workforce Development

Our Workforce Development Council is involved in a number of activities relating to the promotion and enhancement of business, community development, quality of life, education and workforce growth. This council focuses on a number of educational programs. For more information on any of the programs listed, contact Elisa, (423) 461-8006, or

Youth Leadership:  To equip, empower, and inspire high school students to become more engaged and impactful leaders in their school and the community.  Program includes the topics of effective communication, team-building, time management, leadership effectiveness, and more.  This program provides an opportunity for area high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to join together, learn about the community, and identify potential leaders.  Program applications are accepted May-July.

Tennessee Scholars:  A regional program sponsored by area businesses and industry, high school students are encouraged to complete a specific curriculum that provides a high level of skills and readiness for the labor market or higher education.  TN Scholar graduates are assured their advanced education will better prepare them for the workforce, enable them to compete for meaningful jobs, and make them better prepared to pursue advanced technical or university study.  Interested students can contact their guidance counselor for information.

Leadership and Leadership Alumni:  Business leaders join for a planned experience that exposes them to the overall needs of the community and region.  The program examines topics that run the gamut from economic development to medical services to education.  Field visits to key facilities in the city and county along with presentations by professionals who have expertise in a number of specialty and technical fields round out the average day.  Participants attend an orientation session and 1-day retreat, and participate in a 1-day session each month from September to May.  Applications are accepted May-June for the session beginning the following August.  A Leadership Alumni group started in Fall 2006 to continue the networking bond.

Other Programs:  CARE (Career Advancement Readiness Education), Lunch & Learns, and Women’s Power Hours
